From 1st April 2019, 5% of our sales at www.countessablaze.com and in-store will be used as microloans on Kiva. Kiva is a worldwide project specialising in microfinancing small businesses and individuals who are locked out of accessing business aid from mainstream banks and organisations.
Microfinancing gives people an opportunity to begin businesses, or grow them and a number are textiles based. Textiles based loans will be our major interest but we'll also lend to others.
WELCOME TO OUR YARN ISLAND REBEL BATCH. Pack your suitcase and get ready for a long hot summer with Yarn Island.
A bunch of gorgeous yarn dyers will be taking over the hottest studio in the world for four weeks of sun, sea and citric acid, in their quest for the ultimate summer yarn romance! But it's not just their fellow Islanders they'll have to impress.
To be in with a shot at yarn love and the glorious prizes, our Islanders will have to capture your hearts too as YOU have the final say over who gets dumped, and who goes home with the yarn.
Prepare for pie-throwing, yarn-hopping, and breaches of knit code. After all, all is fair in love and Yarn Island.
Our dyers will be coupled up with yarns in which the Yarn Island studio will be filled with plots and intrigue. These colourways are non-repeatable so grab them whilst you can!
We've got a new base at Countess Ablaze. One of the Countess's greatest joys, when she began to knit, was hand-dyed textured yarn from Collinette - an incredible hand dyer who retired a couple of years ago. And if there was something she desperately wanted, it was a fingering weight slub yarn. Finally, Chester Wool Co came to the rescue with this stunner.
Whilst it does contain nylon, it's more as a ply to create the slub (thick and thin) effect so we don't recommend this for socks. But we're craving lofty shawls with this and there's even talk of the Countess getting the weaving loom out.
If you don't fancy your project to be all-over textured, why not try combining it with a smoother plied yarn.
