Why The Classics Society?
About a year ago, I was preparing to come to the end of The Odyssey Trail. After two years of a similar format, I was starting to lose the momentum for it. I needed a break and breaks are good for new ideas.
When I read Classics at Manchester University, we had a lot of parties in The Classics Society. Quite often we'd go and have a curry, dress up in a bedsheet-toga and get hideously intoxicated on Cheeky Vimtos. Cheeky Vimto was quite apt as this is where Vimto was made, although it doesn't actually feature in this drink but with a couple of shots of port and a bottle of blue WKD, it was an excellent student alternative.
So it turns out that www.theclassicssociety.com was not registered. Nor was .org, .net or .co.uk WHY? I can only assume that university Classics Societies are far too busy for domain names as they're studying furiously or drinking too much but way-hey - branding gold!
So I snapped up those bad boys and decided to work on a concept.
I thought and thought and knew instantly that I needed to do things differently. I cannot even remember where the idea for a yarn subscription box came from so that's one boring story that I've spared you from, but I do remember feeling very excited about the idea of doing things differently.
I wanted this yarn box to be a community of like-minded, enthusiastic knitters who wanted to veer off the beaten track a bit. And the reality is, I really miss those Classics Society days.
