I've made the decision that our studio in Manchester will open today and from next week, we will close to the public until I feel that we can open again. We'll operate online only until then - www.countessablaze.com
If you visit the studio today, you'll be asked to wash your hands before touching the yarn. I turned people away yesterday who refused to do this. My space, my rules and if you don't take the risks seriously, you don't come in. Simple as that.
This decision doesn't come lightly, and the financial ramification quite frankly terrifies me. My overheads are much higher than many other dyers due to premises and staff (edit - business insurance does not cover COVID-19 either). However, I need to put my people first. Staff who are high risk from complications if they develop COVID-19, whether it's due to health, age or living with people who could develop complications, have been asked to work from home - so expect some fabulously new knitted samples!
This pretty much leaves Haydn and I working in the studio and whilst both of us are still happy to do so for now, our studio is a mixed space of hand dyed yarn production and bricks and mortar retail. This means we can't safely serve customers if we're pulled away from production (heat, steam, chemicals) due to low staff numbers, nor keep the space as sterile as we can if we're often interrupted. We're not a traditional yarn shop.
So how can you support us? The same way you can support all small businesses affected at this time. Like and share social media posts, buy online (we ship worldwide and Goldie the Postman wants to keep his job too!), fill out your Ravelry project pages so people know where you bought yarn or who designed the pattern. We appreciate all the support.
We offer free UK postage on orders over £50 and free international postage on orders over £100. If you're outside the UK & EU, you can even shop VAT-free online so 20% cheaper!
Keep on stitching and rock on!
