The Clairvoyant Colourways
The New Normal
So back in January 2020, the very first skein of yarn sold at Countess Ablaze was The New Normal.
And here was I thinking this was going to be Brexit transition-related.
Oh no, someone clearly knew what was about to go down. (They didn't, obvs, but go with the flow).
A Light That Never Comes
So I kept an eye on what the last colourway of the day to sell would be, just in case, you know, there was something in this.
Well, the last skein of 2020 was A Light That Never Comes.
Oh great! /s
So I've spent the past three weeks knee-deep in code, restructuring the website and being in a general state of anxiety.
What if it all breaks?
What if the first colourway to sell in 2021 is more DOOOOOM?
The first colourway sold in 2021 is - drum roll, please!
BREAK ME DOWN
Inspired by The Kill by 30 Seconds to Mars and a story about my then 4-year old daughter and her father's funeral, Break Me Down is the first yarn sold this year.
Also the timing - sold during the decision to impeach Trump this week.
Make of that what you will.
What if I wanted to break
Laugh it all off in your face
What would you do?
What if I fell to the floor
Couldn't take all this anymore
What would you do, do, do?
Come, break me down
Bury me, bury me
I am finished with you
And given that we're known for how we name our colourways at Countess Ablaze, I've spent today convincing PayPal that no, I am not selling banned goods from Iran.
Their algorithm flagged up our oldest colourway, going since November 2011, as a problem - Persia. It is named after the stone turquoise, which originates from Persia. Of all the dodgy colourway names we've had over the years, THIS is the one that gets flagged.
So that was my day and fuck algorithms.
So what I'm trying to say is that maybe this year will be okay, eventually, and that our website is now back open (and quietly has been for two days - I wanted a tiny soft secret launch so I could fix any shit coding if needed).
