It is with immense pleasure that the Countess and Blazin'Squad Haydn are reopening the webshop on May 1st. 🙏
It's been a mixed time of trepidation, anger, sadness, relief, OMFG the illness, you name it. But importantly, it was a much-needed chance to step back & look at the bigger picture with a clear head & make plans.
We can't yet open the studio to you but everything has changed. We had 2 floors of retail, now we have one. The middle floor was always mixed retail/dry production but separated out keeps my staff safe. The front door opens from the intercom & I've put a Perspex screen on the till counter. We'll put a limit on customer numbers allowed in at a time. There's a sink for you to wash your hands. We've had a deep clean. But this is future talk.
Let's talk online. I've been hesitant to send post because of reports by postal staff themselves, about poor working conditions. I've had plenty of emails from posties confirming this & thanking us for thinking of them. No solution is perfect but I've been keeping my ear to the ground, researched all delivery carriers & have decided to stay with Royal Mail. Conditions have improved in most areas, although they have staff shortages & a large backlog, importantly they now finally have access to corona testing.
When we open the website, we'll be using tracked services only. Our post will be collected once a week, not daily.
My business isn't just about yarn. It's about ensuring every part of the process treats people fairly, right along the chain. I didn't want to bullshit you and claim "I'm alright Jack, so it's fine for me to post yarn", without research or a risk assessment. I needed to *know* that care was being taken right along the delivery chain, not just at the endpoints.
It's taken time but I believe strides have been made to protect our fab posties. I am still mindful about the need to prioritise essential deliveries so will continue to encourage gift cards for future yarn too.
Huge thanks for bearing with us & yes, I will be taking it slowly. 🤘
Rock on Countess
P.S. I still take issue that Postman Pat has a helicopter for a small village.
