New for 2015 : The Odyssey Trail

January 01, 2015 2 min read

With 2015 now upon us - Happy New Year! - and the success of last year's The Twelve Caesars Collection, it is now time to officially announce this year's theme. This year we are going on a journey with Odysseus as he makes his way home from the Trojan War. Inspired by the oral poetry of Homer, we'll be confronting the Cyclops, Sirens, stormy seas and determined suitors. We shall call this The Odyssey Trail.

Each month I shall be dyeing 12 colourways on both yarn and spinning fibre inspired by the story of Odysseus' journey. Colourways are exclusive to The Odyssey Trailand will not be repeated. Colourways will be associated with characters, events and quotes from each book.

If you would like to read along, the version that I will be using is a translation by Richmond Lattimore and is available in paperback and Kindle version. (This links to Amazon UK). ISBN: 0060931957.

There will be an open thread in the Countess Ablaze Ravelry group where we shall indulge in some ancient inspiration for a KAL around April / May.

As The Odyssey is split into twenty four books, we'll be reading two books per month and the colourways will be released on the last Friday of the month.
